Where we encourage parents to start helping their kids.
Set up parental controls:
Take control of your child’s online experience with parental controls! These powerful tools, available on devices, apps, and through service providers, allow you to limit communication with strangers, block inappropriate content, and manage online searches.
Protect your child’s digital world with settings designed to keep them safe while they explore, learn, and connect online.
Start a discussion about online safety:
Discuss the importance of protecting personal information, recognizing red flags, and making smart choices online. By talking openly, you can help your child navigate the digital world with confidence and build habits that keep them safe every step of the way.
For specific topics to discuss, be sure not to limit yourself to only 1 or 2. There are many online issues that impact youth daily.
Further educate yourself and your child:
Learning about online safety is an ongoing journey for both you and your child. While children may not want to cover everything in one conversation, providing creative, engaging content can make it easier for them to stay interested and informed.
Explore interactive resources, videos, and games together to foster understanding and create a positive, open approach to navigating the digital world safely.

Remember to promote physical activity daily.
Many kids enjoy their screen time, but too much can be a concern. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many children have spent long hours on computers for online learning or gaming while parents work. It’s essential to balance this with active time away from screens.
The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines recommend that children and youth engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily.
